“I feel fortunate to have found Wings of Azadi at the right time in my life. During the pandemic, I was struggling to make ends meet. The program supported me in completing my education and pursuing my passion for dance. Today, I’ve not only managed to move my mother out of the red-light area but also helped my brother earn a living. I am now financially independent and have become a dance instructor.

“I live in a house with four siblings, and the pandemic brought a severe financial crisis. The only job opportunities available to us were as house help, which had always seemed like our only option. I never wanted to take that path and believed I deserved better. Wings of Azadi truly gave me the wings to break that cycle. With the financial aid provided, I was able to complete my foundational skilling classes and finish my education. Today, I have a dignified job and love being financially independent. I am the first girl in my family to achieve this, and I am incredibly proud of myself.

“I grew up in a child care home all my life, and when I had to navigate the real world as an adult, it was a shock. I had crippling shyness and so much anger that I couldn’t make a single friend. I often lay in bed for days on end, and wondered why I was alive. I was a part of Project Phoenix and I qualified for Wings of Azadi that supported me in completing my education in Psychology Hons at Delhi University. The mentors coached me to apply for an internship at a non-profit organization, and later, a job as a project coordinator in another non-profit in Mumbai. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved in the last two years. I couldn’t have done it without this support.
